Last Saturday, the whole family was out running errands. Wouldn’t you know it, lunchtime came around and the kids were hungry (you have to feed them every few hours, you know). My husband suggested going to the Tilted Kilt. ”I’ve never been to this one,” he said. ”It’s just like Hooters, but with kilts, right?” I reply. His opinion was that it would be more toned down on a Saturday afternoon. ”What, like they wear normal length shirts and knee-length kilts?”
So, we go in. Turns out the servers are not dressed more modestly during the afternoon. Only thing more “modest” was there service. Yeah, the less experienced servers work the afternoon shift. Shocking (insert sarcasm here). Short little shirts, tartan bras, ultra-mini kilts (I wonder what they wear under them-oy).
It wasn’t long before my 6 year-old daughter had to go to the bathroom (first of many trips). We go take care of business and as we’re walking back to our table she eyes one of the servers. ”They’re wearing really short shirts.” They sure are! ”They shouldn’t wear those in public. They should only wear those at home.” Yes! Yes! My dear little girl, you should never dress like that! Isn’t that something you totally want to hear from your little daughter? I mean, she could have as easily said that’s what she wanted to be for Halloween this year.
Now, I’m not out to offend anyone who works at the Tilted Kilt or Hooters, for that matter. Working at a restaurant is hard work, possibly made more difficult because of the skimpy uniforms. Male customers are probably not always gentlemen. However, I certainly don’t want my little girl thinking it’s appropriate for her, now or well, ever. Daddy would certainly agree. And, although I certainly see why men go here to watch sports (eye roll), I wouldn’t consider this a “family” establishment.
What do you all think? What’s your opinion about these uniforms? What about eateries like this one?
