I know I’m a bit late (Late Mommy, remember), but this song has been going through my head since Friday. I mean, I was waiting all day for the world to end and nothing! Like everyone else, I’m happy that our world continued to spin. But our family was especially glad because it was my son’s 9th birthday. That would have been an awful way to mark that day. Anyway, enjoy this somewhat vintage rendition of Barry Manilow’s classic, Looks Like We Made It. In addition to being a late mommy, I’m also a Fanilow mommy!

I haven’t posted in a long time. It seems only fitting that this new one say Happy 9th Birthday to my sweet, wonderful, compassionate, superhero-loving son. How does nine years fly by so fast?

Through all the ups and downs, the Barneys and super heroes taking over the house, the crying and laughing and everything in between, I’m so proud of who you are and I can’t wait to see who you will become! I love you!

Dear People,

On a recent Sunday, my family and I attended Arlington Park, a wonderful track that races beautiful thoroughbred horses. I specify Sunday because this day is known as Family Day at the track. Young kids galore, pony rides, face-painting, etc. The day is geared for families.

Yes, it is a race track. People are betting, hoping to win little cash-ola. Many are there just betting for fun, betting on a horse because of the name, the color of their silks, the one their children pick. Of course, there are those that are serious about their betting and winning. This is not some seedy little track catering to the dregs of society. This is a really beautiful course, inside and out. The only dress codes that exist are for the fancier party/meeting rooms and the suites. If you’re in the grand stands, you’re on your own. Still…

Girl with the cute knit yellow dress? Did you notice your dress is very sheer and I could totally see the color of your thong (pink)? Also? I could see your butt cheeks (well-toned), too. Now, maybe that was your plan. To show off your toned butt and how nicely it wears a pink thong. The thing is, we all would have noticed your cute figure without the see-through feature.

Guy with no shirt on? Now, I am certainly no prude and have no problem looking at men without shirts. I mean, I’ve seen Magic Mike. However, there is a time and place for men to be without shirts (have you seen Joe Manganiello on True Blood?). Arlington Park on Family Day? Not one of those times. I must admit that part of my issue with you was the fact that you were really hairy all. over. I know this isn’t your fault, just not my thing. But I can honestly say that it wouldn’t have mattered what you looked like. Again, just not the time nor the place for shirtlessness.

The rest of you out there? Please be mindful of where you will be going when getting dressed. And if you’re tempted to take off your shirt? Look around at the rest of the population and re-think that decision (really, just don’t). I don’t need or want my 6 and 8-year-old kids to see your thongs and hairy, almost animal-like backs.

A large group of us gathered on the Fourth of July to watch the fireworks. It was a large grassy area in a little office park, just west of Arlington Park racecourse. Kids were running around, playing a variety of pick-up games. Adults were standing around talking, maybe enjoying adult beverages. Seeing this sign made me laugh…

Trampoline Fun-vlog style! #iPPP

Yes, got a trampoline. I wasn’t totally thrilled about it, but we knew it would be fun. Of course, our daughter hurt her ankle less than 12 hour after we got it and we’re upping our homeowner’s insurance. But the kids LOVE it! I thought it was about time I got some video of the kids jumping. The only way I saw to do this was to get on there myself, with iPhone in hand!

Now, you’ll notice I’m NOT in the video. This was by design. I sent it to my husband, who was out of town “working” at a baseball game (I kid, he really does work hard). He commented that I should have turned the phone around so he could see me jumping. I realize that most husbands would totally say that. But, really. No one needs to see ME on a trampoline.
