Stephen Colbert and Pap Smears?

I have to start watching the Colbert Report.  The only time I see any of the show is when someone calls my attention to a snippet.  I heard about this segment from the hilarious Vodka Mom‘s blog (really, check her out).  You must watch this all the way through.  The end is especially laugh-out-loud funny.  You’re welcome.

Reverse Bucket List (Inspired by a prompt from Mama Kat)

Mama’s Losin’ It
Who doesn’t love Mama Kat and her Pretty Much World Famous Writer’s Workshop?  Well, one of her writing prompts this week was to create a Reverse Bucket List, 10 top things we never want to do.  In no particular order, I give you my list:

  1. Like sushi or salmon.  I’ve tried both many times, thinking I should like them.   But, just no.
  2. Skydive or bungee jump.  Before I was married and had kids, I actually wanted to try both of these.  Funny how having kids changes things.  I don’t want to take the risk now.
  3. Drive or ride in a Smart Car.  Those things are not much bigger than my son’s Hot Wheels cars.  Death traps!  As risky as my #2!
  4. Enjoy the music of Bruce Springsteen.  I respect his career and longevity in the music business.  But his voice just bugs me.  It sounds like sandpaper.  He would never make it on American Idol.
  5. Have another baby.  As much as the kids might want another sibling sometimes, no.  I’m 46 years old and this factory is closed!
  6. Color my own hair.  I’ve done it before, even tried to do my own highlights.  Total disaster!  Having it professionally done is totally worth the money!
  7. Face my fear of rodents.  Mice and rats totally creep me out.  Seeing a little mouse makes me scream like a little girl.  Even when I see one outside (like last summer when I was pulling weeds in the back yard and one ran by me, totally where it was supposed to be) I run away.
  8. Be a politician.  I don’t know why anyone would subject themselves to running for office.  I think it’s more of a power trip than the call to serve the public good (do they really expect us to believe that crap?), but it just doesn’t seem worth it.  Who wants the whole world to know all their dirty little secrets?
  9. Be without cable and my DVR.  I know, I know, first world problems.  If you read my Luck 11 post, the 1st of 11 things about me is my love of television.
  10. Go hunting.  This is not a gun issue.  I actually would LOVE to go to a range to shoot a handgun or go trap shooting (with clay pigeons. I used to go with my dad all the time when he went).  I just don’t get the shooting animals thing, not my idea of fun.

Lucky 11: Tag! You’re It!

Who’s doesn’t like a good game of tag?  Virtual, bloggy tag is great for me since I’d rather sit down to do things, rather than exert myself too much.  This kind of tag is also more gentle, as I’ve noticed that my son and his friends play a very aggressive version of tag.

I was tagged by the lovely Coffee Lovin’ Mom in this particular game and am ready to play and tag more peeps!  I’ve been in kind of a writing rut lately, so this seems like just the thing to get me going!

Before we get to the questions and the tagged, here are the rules:

  • You must post these rules.
  • Each person must post 11 things about herself on their blog.
  • Answer the questions the “tagger” listed for you in her post, and create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
  • Choose 11 people to tag and link to them in the post.
  • Let each blogger know that you have tagged them.

My 11 Things:

  1. I LOVE, LOVE TV!  The invention of the DVR is my enabler.
  2. I’m never caught up with the laundry (are any of you?).
  3. I have a goal to lose 50 pounds (I’ve lost 5 so far).
  4. I am, and have always been a total procrastinator.
  5. I probably have more shoes and purses than I’ll ever need.
  6. My favorite of my kids’ shows are Phineas & Ferb and Good Luck, Charlie.
  7. I’ve always liked my smile and my eyes.
  8. I would love to go back to school, to work on my doctorate.  I love being in school!
  9. My favorite all-time movie is Gone With the Wind, starring my favorite actor, Clark Gable.
  10. I’m a Fanilow!  I’ve been a Barry Manilow fan for…(gulp) a long time.
  11. I still don’t feel like a grown-up a lot of the time.

The 11 Questions I Answered:

1. Which room do you spend the most time in?    Probably the kitchen.  We eat there, do homework there, hang out there, my laptop is there.  It’s the center of things, figuratively and geographically.

2. How big is the closet in your bedroom?     It’s actually a decent size, yet doesn’t seem big enough.  My organizational system could probably be better.

3.  Have you ever locked yourself out of the house/car? Do tell.  I locked myself out of my first apartment once.  It was on the second floor of a house.  I got a ladder from the garage, climbed up onto the part of the roof, and somehow opened the bathroom window.

4. How many pair of shoes do you own?  Hmm.  Counting boots, sneakers and sandals, about 45 pairs.

5.  What was your first job?  My first job was at a mom & pop ice cream and sandwich shop.  It had a manual cash register, which quickly taught me how to count back change.  This is a skill lost on the current crop of young workers.

6. Who was on your bedroom walls growing up?  Let’s see.  Shaun Cassidy, David Cassidy, Erik Estrada, Barry Manilow, Leif Garrett, Charlie Angels.  I wonder who I’m forgetting…

7. How do you take your coffee?  I start out taking it with a flavored creamer, then slowly add more coffee, heading toward black.

8. Did you buy your first car?  What was it?  My first car had been my grandpa’s.  It was a big maroon boat, 1978 Buick LeSabre.  It had AM radio, a front bench seat and I had to sit on a (matching maroon) pillow to see over the steering wheel.  I named it Gus.

9. What is your favorite adult beverage? Share your recipe.  I like good wine and good beer.

10. Which record albums do you remember from your childhood?  Barry Manilow, Shaun Cassidy, Partridge Family, Rex Smith (who remembers him?)

11.  How did you get where you are today?  I’m honestly not sure.
