GoodReads: Have you been there? (Day 23-31DBBB)

I know I’m jumping around on my 31 Days to Build a Better Blog.  I started to write this post and discovered it would fit into this day’s task.

Who likes to read?  I do!  I do!  Have you been to GoodReads?  It’s a website where you can keep track of what you’ve read, what you are currently reading and what you’d like to read.  You can rate and review the books you’ve read, too.  I especially love being able to keep track of what I’d like to read because there’s no way I could remember all of those!  I even added my own “shelf” of books my book club has read.

It’s also a social networking site.  You can have friends, view their “shelves” and receive updates on what they’re reading or have read.  There are tons of groups you can join (different genres, trivia, book clubs, etc.), too, so you can really hone in on your specific interests.  GoodReads also gives you suggestions on what’s popular and lots of lists to help you find something you might like.

If you’re a reader, you have to check it out!

Check it out and let me know what you think.  Let me know what you’re reading right now!  Friend me:  I’m Judy N.

What I’ve Read…
Judy N.'s book recommendations, favorite quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)

31 Days to Build a Better Blog Challenge (31DBBB)-Day 1

**Update** I’m a 31 Days to Build a Better Blog Challenge (31DBBB) drop out.  I started this challenge during the summer and kept up pretty well for about 10ish days.  Darn vacation threw me off.  So, I’ve decided to jump back in from the beginning.  So, here we go (again)!

In an effort to improve my blogging skills, I have signed up for the 31 Days to Build a Better Blog challenge through The SITS Girls,  their Community at The Blog Frog, and ProBlogger. Day 1′s task is to create an Elevator Pitch.  This is to help me focus on what my blog is about and be able to articulate that to a (hopefully) growing readership.

I’m a new blogger, only doing this for a few months.  It started as a creative outlet for me and a way for family and friends to know what’s going on.  It was also a blog about reading, language and literacy.  I found that I was all over the place.  So, I created two blogs.  So far, this blog has taken precedence.  I guess I wanted to develop one blog before tackling another.  I heard about this challenge on Twitter and thought that it was just what I needed to improve my blog, grow readership and develop better blogging habits.  Away we go!

Tag Line: A blog about mommyhood, childhood, and my ‘hood

Short Elevator Pitch: This blog is one mom’s take on motherhood, her kids’ childhood, and her suburban ‘hood.

Long Elevator Pitch: Sometimes humorous, sometimes serious, Late Mommy’s Blog is one late-in-life and  punctuality-challenged mom’s take on motherhood, childhood and her suburban ‘hood.  By sharing the good, the bad and the ugly parts of being moms, navigation through this crazy thing called motherhood might just be a little easier!

Lose 30 Pounds: My #1 Thing to Do This Year

You may have read the post about my 10 Things to Work on This Year, posted in February.  Numero Uno on my list was to learn 30 pounds.  I thought putting it out there on the Internet would make me do it.  Well, all these months later find me not having lost one pound.  I’ve lost a bit, then gained it back.  I’m basically starting from scratch.  Now my thought is if I put that goal into a single post, that I hope lots of people will read, I will have to start in earnest.  I’m looking to you to keep my honest.  I started today (I know we all say that at one point or another) by eating smart and going to the gym.

For most of my life weight wasn’t an issue.  I could eat what I wanted and maintain my weight with little effort (I know, I know).  As I got older and after I had my kids, though, all that changed.  My metabolism seemed to come to a screeching halt.  Putting on the weight was very easy…taking it off, hard.  Now I always seem to hate how I look, but I went through some times of not caring enough to do much about it.  Well, that’s not the case anymore.  I want and need to do something about it!  It is largely ego-based, but I also want to be generally healthier, for my family.

Does anyone else have stories of weight loss struggles and/or inspiration?  Share them in the comment!  The cause of losing weight is one that brings people and their comments out.  They want to share…please do!  That way I, and others, can learn and be inspired by the stories.  Also, when you visit, add your blog site’s URL to the Simply Link list on the right of the page.  That way the word about your awesome blogs can spread just a bit more.

So, away we go!  I’ll keep you posted and you keep me posted!
